Abstract (AB)Leaf scald infection in sugarcane variety M 695/69 was determined by stalk-blot on selective medium. The disease was distributed in all sectors of the island. Forty-one of the 57 fields surveyed were infected with a peak incidence (48 per cent) in an 8th ratoon crop. Serotyping of Xanthomonas albilineans isolates from M 695/69 collected during the sampling showed that 77 belonged to the Mascarene serotype and only two to the African one. The use of the stalk-blot method to quantify leaf scald incidence and the distribution of the disease in Mauritius is discussed.
