| Tandex and NC20484 are good herbicides but the former is too phytotoxic to sugar cane. Fusilade + atrazine is much better than Fusilade alone. The same observation applies to DPX4189 when mixed with diuron. Basagran DP scorches Cyperus rotundus very rapidly but regrowth is more abundant than Actril-DS. NC20484 is unsatisfactory. If rain falls one hour or more after spraying Roundup, control of C. rotundus is slightly reduced. Also, ploughing will slightly reduce weed control, if it is done one week instead of four, after spraying Roundup. It seems that certain soil types, particularly heavy soils, are not suitable for minimum tillage. For most varieties selective harvesting has been found better than stubble shaving both in humid and superhumid conditions. In the dry region, only M377/56 has been affected by burning. | |
