Abstract (AB)Although no cases of cane smut have been found in Morocco, there is always the risk of introduction of wind-borne spores from other African countries such as neighbouring Mali and Snegal. For this reason, tests were conducted at Richard Toll in Senegal on plant cane and 1st ratoons growing in open fields. Of the seven CP varieties grown in Morocco, only two (CP 70-330 and CP 66-346) proved resistant and the rest were susceptible. The strategy that needs to be adopted in view of these results, including replacement of susceptible varieties, is discussed.
