Abstract (AB)Studies on the biology and ecology of the main sugarcane white grubs in Mauritius are being carried out and data available to date are presented. Phyllophaga smithi is by far the most common species, being found almost all over the island. It is, however, kept under control through various factors, and the actions of some of them remain to be determined. Scoliid wasps introduced in the past for its control are still quite common while gregarines have been found to infect a high percentage of the larvae. Heretonychus licas and Alissonotum piceum are very localized and of no importance.
