Abstract (AB)Gummosis, leaf scald, red rot, pineapple diseae, chlorotic streak and ratoon stunting are the major diseases prevailing in Mauritius. Of these, the first two lead to unconditional discard of susceptible varieties, and resistance trials have to be conducted at an early stage in the selection of seedlings. The presence of new strains of the gumming disease and leaf scald pathogens complicates the testing procedure. The experimental procedure adopted in the establishment of resistance trials to gummosis, leaf scald, chlorotic streak and ratoon stunting is described.
