Abstract (AB)Resistance to 3 strs. of MMV increased with age of the host plants. MMV-Fine was the most infectious str., MMV-Coarse intermediate and MMV-Broken the least. Reduction in yield was related to the stage of growth at the time of infection : from emergence and up to 4 wk the disease was damaging to the crop. Results obtained in the field were not always consistent with those from glasshouse tests and work was further complicated by tolerance in some cultivars and by the presence of other viruses.
